KAFE IN TOWN assistant manager arrested for arson

Yangon, Kyauktada Township. The Yangon Region Fire Chief’s Office and Kyauktada City Police Station confirmed on March 17 that they have arrested the assistant manager of the KAFE IN TOWN and HOP POT & RESTAURANT store on the corner of Pansodan Road and Merchant Street.

The incident took place at around 5:10 am on March 8, according to the Rangoon Region Fire Chief’s Office.

Before the fire broke out at 5:10 am on March 8, Myo Min Thant, the assistant manager, set fire to the upper floor of the shop on March 7 at around 9:20 pm and extinguished it himself with the staff.

“The shop was set on fire on the evening of March 7 to educate the children,” he said. He surrounded himself and calmed down. He could not sleep at night when the children told him to watch CCTV again, ”said a police officer from Kyauktada City Police Station.

“Then I went to the KTV shop at around 1 pm (March 8 at 1 am). I came back around 4 in the morning. It is learned that they are still talking to the security forces. I also drank alcohol. The fire broke out at around 4:50 am, ”said the police officer.

The fire burned down the entire cafe downstairs, and the closed HOP POT upstairs burned down the entire hall, including 18 roundabouts, up to Mya Sabei cafeteria.

A fire broke out at the building above / below the two shops at around 5:18 am that day.

The fire was extinguished at 5:57 am and more than 39 lakh kyats was lost in the fire.

According to the investigation, U Myo Min Thant was arrested at Kyauktada City Police Station. He was arrested under Section 436 of the Penal Code.
