65 bodies found in landslide in Wekha village, Hpakant township

Kachin State Hpakant Township Seikmu Village Tract; Wekha Village Quarter (6), A landslide occurred at Kyauk Myat Shwe Pyi Company (locally known as Three Companies Company) in Laku Chaung at around 6:30 this morning, and 65 bodies have been found so far, according to U Kyaw Min, head of the Hundred House in Wekha village.

“As far as we know, it was around 8 am. So far, 65 bodies have been found and are still being searched,” said Kyaw Min.

“The landslide in Laku Chaung, about a thousand feet, was carried away by local water treatment workers while digging there. There was a lake under the landslide, so they were swept away,” said Magi Brang Mai, a social worker.

Township Administrator and departmental officials went to the landslide site. Village administrations; Township firefighters; Humanitarian organizations and the people of Wekha village are carrying out search and rescue operations.
